We're halfway through our year of depicting character types. This month the pair to select from is OPTIMIST or PESSIMIST. If you're choosing this option (Option 1) you should focus on depicting a person who embodies one of those traits. You may use a real person as your inspiration, but remember to fictionalize your model!
In May we added an option to the mix - instead of writing your piece on one of the opposite "types", you can instead continue to develop a character you PREVIOUSLY created. This option continues throughout the rest of 2016. The emphasis does not have to be on the same "traits" featured for the month. In Option 2, the idea is to develop as thoroughly as possible, through vignettes or stand-alone episodes, a well-rounded character study throughout the rest of the year.
We have a game plan for 2017 and will continue to discuss this at the end of our July 14th session. For those who missed it, next year we will revisit writing in genres, with new options for genre types based on your suggestions. We've also discussed the possibility of using photos to inspire our stories. If you are so inclined, please think about what you'd like to work on next year and we'll try to incorporate as many of your ideas as possible.
Word count for PI assignments is flexible, but your stories should be printed on one side of a sheet of paper, in a font no smaller than 11 point. Please make enough copies so we can all read along with you.
SUGGESTION: Practice reading the story aloud - this sometimes shows you what could be improved. Then, proofread your work before you print. Do your best to correct all spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors (SPAG) so we can provide feedback on content instead of mechanics.
