This month we will continue to explore another genre of fiction writing by turning our attention to HISTORICAL and/or BIOGRAPHICAL themes.
Given that we are limited to around 400 words, it may prove challenging to find a suitable topic.
It's just a suggestion, but you could focus on one small historical event, or just one aspect of the person whose mini- biography you'll be writing. This will enable you to go into some detail rather than trying to present an all-encompassing overview (which you can save for a future novel).
For historical fiction, our own Cheryl Pula has written many fine novels about WWII, but you needn't write about war. You are free to create your story from any real country, from the past in any time period. The possibilities are unlimited. Your characters can be fictional, but the event must have been real.
For biographical fiction, please select a deceased public figure rather than a living one, being very mindful of various problems that can arise if you have your character do, um, something out of character. You might, just as an example, write about George Washington having to replant the cherry tree he supposedly chopped down.
As always, please make several copies of your story for the other writers if you will be attending the meeting on May 14 at 2 PM.
If you wish to submit a story without attending the meeting, please email it to us as an attachment, in the body of the message, or "share " it with us via Google Docs at whitesborowriters@gmail.com.
A word about Google Docs: if you are using gmail for email, Google Docs is a word processing software that can be accessed from your internet connection. It has some great features and is similar to MS Word. If any of you would like to learn how to use this software, please let me know. I'd be pleased to show you how versatile and convenient it is. And best of all, it's FREE!
As always, keep writing!
